Motorists urged to drive only if necessary as local flooding causes road closures tonight

PERSISTENT heavy rain has led to widespread local flooding across the Staffordshire Moorlands this evening (Oct 25).
Motorists are being warning that some roads are impassable and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging motorists not to drive through water if they are unsure of its depthh.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said:” “We have numerous roads flooded across the county this evening, too many to list. We are experiencing a high volume of weather related calls into our control room.
“We ask that if you need to make a journey this evening, that you please drive in accordance with the weather and do not take any risks driving through water of which you are unsure on the depth”.
Tunstall Road, in Biddulph, is closed at Brindley Ford, and the A53 Leek to Buxton Road at Solomons Hollow is not passable
In Stoke-on-Trent the A500 is not passable towards the M6.
The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for the rivers Churnet, Tean and Upper Dove in the Moorlands.
